This radio was bought on Amazon in July 2011. Excellent power over 15 miles of Lake Superior. (to boat with high antenna). This is outstanding for a hand held set! First problem was a month after receiving the set. The 12 V charger attachment broke off one side where it clips on the radio. In Jan 2012 the battery clip that holds the battery in place fell off and could not be re clipped (broke). The plastic attachments are very stiff and broke off without undue pressure. Shame, as other wise good UNIDEN radio.Read Best Reviews of Uniden MHS75 VHF Waterproof Two-Way Marine Radio Here
I bought this unit before a 1 week long kayak expedition off the north of Vancouver Island. I charged the unit up before I left Port Hardy and used it to check weather reports and talk to the local light house keeper. The reception was great and the battery was still almost unused by the end of the week. I left it on a home and the battery was still good 2 weeks later.
A car charger would be a nice addition but I already have a DC-AC converter in my cigarette lighter so I didn't miss that option. For the money, this is a good unit although I didn't try submerging it in salt water.

This radio works very well. I was able to transmit over a good distance, is clear and understandable. The weather radio section has a weather alarm which is quite loud and worked well during the last tornado watch. The speaker is usually fine but not loud enough to be heard well when there s a lot of engine noise. It only has a 12 v DC charger, but I purchased an AC adapter. I now prefer charging the unit in the car while driving to the boat.for a tiny antenna, it has a good reach. Batteries hold up very good. After about 5 miles you need to stand tall for better TX. Reception is great. Book instructions were OK.
