My third Humminbird fishfinder. I am hard on them. Leave them out in the weather. They do not like getting wet as in soaking wet. Saltwater kills them in a short time. Easy to install, use and cheap. Operative features are second nature. My kids figured it out by playing with the buttons. Just keep it dry and it will last forever.

To start with it comes as an easy install, although you still need a battery. At first glance it is compact smart and easy to use. The screen is grey scale, has the regular screen adjustments and a backlight. Coming from a country that uses metric it what still a good buy. The fish ID feature works well, as soon as I dropped my line fish were biting and on. Go humminbird.

Great little machine: Connect, paddle off, watch bottom structure and fish.

No problems with the setup, easy menus and control, sounds through a kayak hull without any difficulty.

Runs forever (at least a 3D2N trip, have not tried longer) on a small lead acid battery. (smallest scooter battery you can buy.)

This is a terrific product for the price.

Pros:

Good user interface.

Easy to read, even from 6-8 feet away.

(Mostly) accurate depth readings (see below).

Accurate fish-finding capabilities.

Reasonably easy to install.

Cons:

It's unclear from the product description whether I need other add-ons. FWIW, I did not. I was able to hook it directly into my boat's electrical system.

Installation instructions are needlessly complex.

Depth finder will occasionally read "0 feet" or "(some huge number like 238) feet", but will shortly recover. I figure it's probably due to occasional wake/choppiness, so I'm not too concerned.

I would recommend this to my friends. It's a welcome addition to my boat, and I rely on it now for every trip.

I had gotten this for my 14' inflatable kaboat with an 8HP motor (its a cross between kayak and boat)

i attached the transducer on the mount area and it worked fine for a few trips.

I was out on the boat fishing with someone in the bay and saw a few fish on radar flash

so I decided to cut around and get closer. When i cut around the transducer somehow just randomly

decided to fall off and when i looked down i saw the cable snagged in the propeller. With the cost of

the transducer being almost the cost of a new unit I'm just replacing the unit from the 160 to the 170.

if I have the same problem I wont be buying anymore from Hummingbird. Also when i say randomly fell off i mean randomly I was out on the water for around 3 hours and doing various speeds and it was fine then, but doing a low speed turnabout causes it to fall off? weak.
