I bought this light for the cats and for pointing out things outside at night. It turns out it's so bright that I think my cats are a bit afraid of it and prefer the less bright red dot lasers we have. That's ok though because this is a very fun light for outside star gazing. The beam is such that for some reason it picks up dust particles and other debris in the air that my red laser does not see. The net effect is that the beam acts like a very large pointer through the air and thus becomes useful when pointing out constellations and other sky based items.

I have really enjoyed playing around with this light and am very impressed. I've pointed it at church steeples a mile or more away and can see the dot easily. Very cool.

One big warning, as I pilot I want to point out that it's a federal crime to point a laser like this at a plane. The problem is that if it hits the glass of the cockpit it can refract inside and there's a risk of temporarily blinding a pilot, which can cause a very dangerous situation. Please don't give this to young kids who might try pointing it an anything moving with a human in it.

The unit has been solid and is working well for me, no flicker or problems at all. It's fairly large like a far highlighter pen and long enough for 2 AAA's easily plus more. I like that it uses batteries I can replace with rechargeable batteries which will lower the cost of actually using the light.

*** Update 25Sep2012, after only a couple weeks now this has started to have some issues. It'll not always go fully bright, you have to shake it and mess with the button now. Bummer because it really was working nicely for a time there. Rating lowered to 3 stars, it's ok.

3 stars, there is no laser warning on the case (which I believe there should be) and the batteries wiggle inside, it could be a nicer fit. It still works but is having some issues requiring shaking and messing with the button, that makes it only ok, not great anymore.

My son and I were on a Cub Scout camping trip when our Pack leader pulled something similar out to point out some constellations and planets. Having an interest in astronomy and enjoying learning and sharing, I've tried to point out different features to others before but with little luck, "Okay, see that little star right there? Okay, now see the one two stars to the left?" Needless to say, that didn't work too well.

After borrowing the Pack leader's laser to take to a science camp with a group of 5th graders, I decided to see about buying my own. I was pleasantly surprised to see how inexpensive this item that had the same specs as the one I'd borrowed is, so I added one to an order I was placing.

It arrived sooner than expected, and while it came with absolutely no instructions or packaging other than a padded envelope (I managed to put the two batteries in backward the first time), it was easy enough to figure out. It works great and throws an amazing beam that makes it very easy to point out astronomical objects. I'm very pleased.

First off, the shipping said 14-28 buisness days. But it came in 6 buisness days!! VERY fast shipping. GREAT LASER. But theres only 1 problem, the batteries that come with it. I tried them right when i opened the package and I thought the laser was broken for a second. Then I put new batteries in (Energizer) and it worked GREAT! Overall Great laser.

Pros: Feels solid, strong, very good, can see beam at most times, fast shipping.

The beam was great for the price. This is fun to use to entertain people and use at night. All in all it was one of the greatest $6 i've spent!

Great laser pointer for the price, it is powerful enough that in sufficient dark the beam is actually visible. However if you do use it too often it burns through AAA batteries pretty fast.

On the upside cats seem to even crazier for green lasers than red ones.
