Humminbird PiranhaMAX 160 4-Inch Waterproof Fishfinder and Dual-Beam Transducer

Humminbird PiranhaMAX 160 4-Inch Waterproof Fishfinder and Dual-Beam Transducer

It worked fine here in Florida during the winter months when the temperature was below 90, but when the temperature went above 90 the screen was no longer visable until temperatures went back down (even at the highest contrast setting). The unit also doesn't seem to be water resistant... for sure it's not waterproof. After getting caught in the rain, the unit would from that point on have HEAVY water condensation on the inside of the screen. So much so that the screen was unreadable at the edges. If you live in a moderate temperature zone, this will probably work fine for you (just don't let it get wet). If you live where the temperatures get above 90 frequently (like Florida) this is a waste of $$$.

First off, a little about myself. I generally use my boat every weekend I get a chance, most in sun but if I'm fishing I stick it out in the rain unless there's a monsoon going on, then I head in. Have been out with this particular unit maybe 30-40 times in the two years in hot/cold, wet/dry weather.

So far it has held up great. No problems, no fading, still works after two years. It's easy to use, contains plenty of information about the fish and landscape below your boat. I would highly recommend it, certainly a bargin at the price I paid for it here. 5 stars.

I bought the fish finder from Amazon for a great price considering I live in New Zealand $141.00 NZD including postage as a posed to $299.00 NZD from a local boat shop. It was purchased for my kayak, and installation was quite simple, using blue lithium grease to set the transducer on the inside of the hull. Took her out this morning to test it,and it worked faultlessly. The only reason I have given it 4 stars is because it only measures in feet and Fahrenheit with no option to change it to metres and degrees, not really a problem as I can get used to it, the other thing is the size of the transducer plug is to big to be able to use any other cable fitting other than the one supplied, which on a kayak isn't ideal, but testing it today no water got in, but then there was no surf, so if I sink I'll let you know lol. All in All A very good buy and well worth the money.

Just recieved the Pirahna Max Depth finder a few weeks ago. Used it up in the BWCAW

Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness last week.

Had to modify a few things to work in my canoe. Works great. Light weight, and easy to pack.

After installing the device showed 0 feet forever while on a standing boat in 15 feet of water.

I spent two days checking battery, cables etc. then returned it and got

another brand product. Reputable manufactureres should test the products before putting them on the shelf.
