I must have looked at the various projectors on Amazon a thousand times. I wanted one that I could use to watch movies, and use to play games with my PS3. I didn't want to spend a lot of money but all the projectors that said home theater were expensive starting at about $700 and the 1080p were starting higher than that. I kept seeing the rave reviews for this projector and the model below it (the cheaper one has no HDMI connection). However, I still did not like that this model was classified as a data projector for presentations not what I wanted. I kept thinking this was for a home setup not for a classroom or office, so the projector i need has to say it is for a home theater for home use. I reread the Amazon reviews again and I decided to go for it and get the View Sonic the one I really thought I wanted was the Optoma HD66Optoma HD66 2500ANSI Lumens 4000:1 3D-Ready DLP Home Theater Projector White (this one was a home theater projector because it said so on the box)it was $250 more. I could have afforded it but didn't want to spend that much as I was not sure how much I would use a projector, or even like the picture they produced.

I didn't have much time to think about it because I paid the $3.99 for Amazon Prime service and it came the next day. When it arrived I was convinced that it was not going to be the one for me so it sat there unopened for most of the day. When I did finally open the data projector, It was actually nicer looking than I expected a little bigger and heavier. So I cleared a spot on my Dresser and aimed it at the wall over my Bed this was about 14 to 15 feet. I thought about what to watch on it first, Ah "A Bugs Life" seemed appropriate because this purchase was bugging me with buyers remorse. So I plugged it in didn't read the instructions just winged it. I hooked my PS3 up to the back with an HDMI connection (the one feature I was happy about on this projector). Then I turned it on and saw the picture, it was fuzzy and not clear like I knew it would be ! It's going back right now and Im getting the Optoma. I picked up the quick start guide and glanced at it. It said turn the Focus ring to adjust. So I did just that and as i did my jaw hit the floor. I just smiled as I sat there in my fully lit bedroom with the sun pouring in and was stunned the picture was as clear as my Top of the Line Sony Bravia. I was amazed, I had to share this with someone, so I called my neighbor he and his wife came over as they walked into my bedroom they said Wow. So as we watched A Bugs Life I decided to switch off the lights and close the curtains. We all gasped and said WOW! That day my bedroom became my new "Movie Palace and Video Game Wonderland".

This projector is awesome believe what everyone says. The picture is very clear and vivid with the lights fully on but turn the lights off and you will be blown away, WOW!. There are other projectors that are more expensive with more features but the one I have is perfect and does a great job for what I wanted. One thing I learned with this purchase don't buy into the hype but trust the people. I did that with this projector and listened to what the people were saying in their reviews and they were right about this product.

I absolutely recommend this projector to any one in the market wanting one. Several of my friends have purchased this model from seeing it at my house and love it as much as I do. I am just careful never to mention the word Data Projector around my Viewsonic PJD5133, because he and I fully believe he is a Home Theater Projector and I want him to keep believing that..

ONE YEAR UPDATE 2/2013:

It has now been over a year since I first got this projector and I still love it. I think it is a great buy and worth every penny. However, I have found one limitation and that is th 3d capabilities. To make the 3D work you need to buy a 3D processor it costs about $199 [ASIN:B004ULPF50 View Sonic 3D HD Video Processor (VP3D1)]] plus you need to buy 2 pairs of glasses another $60. Once I had all the equipment to make 3D work I couldn;t wait to try it. Huge disapointment. I wanted 3D primarily for the gaming and this projector just was not bright enough to make the 3D work. You could not see the images on the screen very well at all. In fact, it was not playable in my opinion. So all of the 3D stuff got sent back to Amazon. THe main reason was the glasses they are like wearing sun glasses and the projector was not bright enough. So as much as I love this projector anyone who is wanting a good 3D experience, this is not the projector for you. I hope this helps.

PS. THe light bulb is still going strong with no signs of it dimming, it is as good as the first day I turned it on.

Buy ViewSonic PJD5133 SVGA DLP Projector Now

Before this one we bought the FAVI RIO 2 projector and in comparison that one was like a children's toy. You couldn't set it up right. The resolution was way off, color non existent, and you couldn't use it for anything except movies. Forget about computer presentations. The letters were blurry and muddy.

To tell you the truth I was afraid we were not going to find a projector to suit our needs under a $1,000.

None of those were a problem for the Viewsonic. Granted this review is after a very short period of time. If it changes I will update this. However, as of right now, this projector is as good, if not better than the one I have at work which probably cost more than a $1,000. That one is a VieSonic as well but much bigger.

First of this projector is BRIGHT. You will have no problem displaying it in a room with light. Haven't tested it in a sun lit room yet though, but I would venture to guess that you wouldn't have a big issue.

My wife needed a projector that will do presentations and display her Macbook computer screen on White or Blackboard. No problem there. Letters are clear and bright. If anything this projector is almost too bright. Had to have a lower setting on the coloration.

So far I have tested DVD playback, a couple of presentations, and the wife is testing the overall use in the classroom as wee speak. Movies were good (even through VGA display...can't wait to have an outdoor movie beside the pool on the side wall), and presentations clear and crisp.

Oh and the size of the display seems like it could be huge. I was not able to test the actual distances. It says it could display a 250" screen. That's enormous. My test was around 55" screen size. Plenty good for classroom applications. I did rotate it slightly to the side and saw a much bigger screen and preserved resolution. So no problems there.

SO far A+++ on this projector. These ViewSonic ones seem really good for the price. I will update as we go along and report any problems.

this it`s a great product in the video it's projected at 27 feet from a wall, it's a regular white wall with a projection screen it's even better the image it's great and the size of the image on the wall on this video is 156 inches (diagonally), and it can get bigger than this but that's the size of the wall im gonna tri it later on a bigger area, the source it's a regular dvd with RCA cable, with a bluray player like a playstation 3 with the HDMI cable the image gets better, the bigger the image you have to watch it more far away from the wall otherwise your'e gonna see squares in the screen for example for every 20" that you add to the image you have to move away 3 feet aprox. I know that this it's obvious for some people but for some others don't,it's like if go to the movie theater and you stand close to the scrren your'e gonna see the exact same thing, in general it's a wonderfull product if you use it correctly for under 350 bucks price you get a movie theater in your house.

Want ViewSonic PJD5133 SVGA DLP Projector Discount?

got this projector about a week back. the advantage of this over its prior version PJD5123 is this has HDMI port.

HDMI is the digital medium of signal transmission over SVGA or VGA which is analog. also, most of the newer devices would have HDMI ports, in case you need to use them with the projector eg blue ray or set top box of your cable

I connect this to my laptop all the time to watch movies from DVD and the picture quality is amazingly crisp. I can project the image directly on the white wall without any problems.

with 5000+ hrs of bulb life, i think this projector can be a replacement for your LCD/LED(if you are planning to buy one). you can hook this up with your cable box and you are good to go!

the in build speakers are not that good but it has a voice out that you can use to plug external speakers(i connect Polaroid U228 USB Powered Speakers to my laptop and this $12 pair works well for me!)

it's very quite unlike few other projectors i saw. the only drawback I can mention is viewsonic does not include lens protection cap with this model.

PA: I haven't tried the 3D feature yet.

Update 02 Jan 2011:

------------------

It has been more than 3 weeks that I am using this projector and I am so used to the big picture, that I don't use my TV any more! Really a great buy.

Update 28 Feb 2012

------------------

I purchased a $10 pair of 3D glasses from Amazon to check the 3D quality of this projector and guess what, it is great. I watched few youtube 3D videos and really enjoyed them.

Update 15 Feb 2013

-------------------

The projector still runs strong!

I used to connect a 25 feet HDMI cable to my projector and Laptop and it was working fine. recently I bought sony blu-ray player and when i connected the same HDMI cable to the player and projector , there was no picture(picture was coming for a sec or two and then blank).

so I tried connecting shorter 6 feet HDMI cable that I got from sony and it worked. clearly the blu-ray player is not transmitting strong signal to the projector OR my 25 feet HDMI cable could not handle the blu-ray signal.

I resolved this by purchasing another 25 feet HDMI cable from amazon (10-12 $) and now I can see my blu-ray movies fine.

Also, i talked to the ViewSonic rep about 3D glasses. he recommended the active shutter glasses for this projector.

I bought this projector after much research with others. The quality and everything about this projector is great and it has all the inputs and outputs you need including hdmi in and audio out which I use for my computer and xbox 360 everyday. I have the screen set up to be about 7 feet wide and the image looks just as good as my TV! Would recommend this projector to anyone.
