DirecTV RC65 4-Device Universal IR Remote

DirecTV RC65 4-Device Universal IR RemoteI live in a house with 3 girls. 1 Wife and 2 daughters. 3 girls with 0 respect for remote "control". 1 remote met it's demise in the washing machine. (i don't know either) 1 remote is probably in a coat pocket in the closet, it's just gone. I don't get mad, I get on amazon.com and order another remote.

I purchased this remote from Amazon because my previous RF remote stopped working with my DirecTV HR24 HD DVR receiver. I did not need the antenna that came with this remote since all HR24 recievers have internal RF antennas. I programmed the remote for my other components using the on-screen directions found in the "remote control" section of the DirecTV menu. (Press "menu" on the remote, scroll down to "remote control", hit select and follow directions after selecting "program remote".) Finally, I changed the receiver from IR remote function to RF remote function. (My DirecTV receiver is enclosed in a solid wood cabinet so IR will not work for my situation). It took about 5 minutes from the time I put the batteries in the remote until everything was complete. An added convenience with this remote is the backlight which the wife and kids love when watching TV at night with the lights off. This was the perfect replacement remote for me. The usual fast shipping from Amazon was a big plus.

Buy DirecTV RC65 4-Device Universal IR Remote Now

just upgraded to HR25 HD DVR which came with RC65RX remote. i wanted sapre units so asked installer if i needed the "RX" version remote. he said only if i wanted the radio-frequency control mode (instead of just the IR method).

thinking i didn't need any fancy interface, i ordered two of the standard RC65. they came fast and as described from Westronics thru amazon.

i then tried to get it to control my sound system (Yamaha YSP-3050) using all 23 codes that DirecTV offered. all i could get it to do was turn the Yamaha on/off, but not control things like the volume.

figured i just had the wrong codes, so i called DirecTV and they walked me thru yet another way of finding the right code via an auto-find process. still no luck.

after additional questioning i discovered that the "X" in the name has to do with the way the remote interfaces with other brand systems. the "X" part allows it to both send and receive information. it seems my Yamaha requires two-direction interfacing, so i cannot ever get the RC65 to control the volume.

thus, if you want a remote to be able to do everything that the RC65RX can do, get that remote.

I ordered the Directv Remotes and they were shipped to me in five days the price was a little unbelievably low,

so I was a little skeptical when they arrived. They were the same remotes that originally came with my directtv box.

I have ordered them twice already due to the fact of having two puppy Boxers who think they look like their chew toys.

I have a Direct TV DVR receiver and the Guide button on my orignal remote broke off. I saw this remote on Amazon and was very skeptical about ordering it since the cost was only $0.92, but I figured I would take a chance. I ordered two of these remotes, total cost with shipping was $9.79!

I ordered this product on Dec 2nd, arrived Dec 8th US Postal service.

The remote is identical to my orignal remote. I put two AA baterries in, pressed PWR button and my DTV DVR powered off and back on.

I slid the function switch to TV and pressed the channel up button, and the DTV receiver dispalyed a message to telling me to program the TV functions on the remote. First, using the Channel button, scroll down to find your brand of TV and press the Select button. I have a Visio XVT TV, which had 5 possible codes displayed on the screen, and of course it was the last code listed.

To program the remote, simply hold the mute and select buttons down for about two seconds until the green LED light above the TV label flashes twice, then enter the 5 digit code. Try the volume key, if the code is correct, your volume will change and you are done.

I also discovered that I could program the the TV Input button to scroll through the various available input options on the Visio TV. Since the original remote was never programmed to do this, I did not know it could. This is great as I no longer have to get up and manully select the TV input from the TV control panel when i want to switch between broadcast TV or other inputs.

To do this, after you get the correct TV code programmed, press and hold the mute and select keys down for two seconds gain, and once the LED flashes twice, enter the code "960". Thats it. The TV input button should now let you scroll through your TV's different input options...TV, AV1, AV2, HDMI1, HDMI2, etc.

Note: As other have stated, this is an IR (Infrared) version, not the RF (Radio Frequency) version. Some AV equipment may require an RF version in order to be programmed and/or fully functional. I do not have this problem and the IR works the same as my original DTV remote.

I would highly recommend this product as a replacement or additional DTV IR remote. Even with the shipping / handling cost of $7.95 sure beats the price at your local store, where they typically cost around $25 each. Again, I got two for a total of $9.79 delivered to my door!

You can not beat the price!
