- DECT 6.0 digital technology provides the best sound quality, security and range in cordless phones
- Protect yourself from identity theft with digital security, your call is digitized and encrypted, making it nearly impossible for someone to eavesdrop
- Conference an outside call between handsets and lines
- Backlit keypad and display allowing for easier viewing in dim light
- Trilingual prompts allow you to choose between English, Spanish or French
HOWEVER, it does NOT have a headphone jack! I get on 3 hour conference calls, and counted on this as having a headphone jack. IT DOES NOT. If you are looking for a good handheld phone for brief conversations without a headset, this is the ticket. If you are looking for an office phone on which you engage in hour+ calls, pay a bit more and look elsewhere.
So that's what I get for making assumptions!
Buy VTech CS6419 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone (Black/Silver, 1 Handset Now
Pros: great quality for price, great sound quality for price, good range in basement of house *installed in basement-haven't used across levels or outside), clean design, easy to push buttons, easy setup, expandable.Cons: listener on call complained that voice volume was low, flat design forces phone to rest either on lips or ears but not both, speaker phone in handset only not on base (as describedI just like it when it is in the base.)
Big con: after one phone call and one night, the phone base no longer receives power from the AC adapter (or the adapter blew) and the phone cannot be used. (the phone display reads: NO PWR AT BASE and plugging and unplugging the base has no effect on the phone.) Vtech's troubleshooting did not help. I will exchange the phoneit was good enough for the price to give it one more try.

Want VTech CS6419 DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone (Black/Silver, 1 Handset Discount?
I bought this cordless telephone to use with my newly acquired NetTalk Duo VOIP system. The operation of the CS6419 is pretty straightforward and it's features are usable. The speakerphone on the handset reduces the need for a headphone jack. I'm still looking for a compact cordless telephone, though, with a length less than 5.5" and a flat base which is easily transported in a backpack. Unfortunately, the CS6419 is a bit too bulky for my requirements. BTW, this telephone does retain directory information even if power is disconnected from both the base and the handset so only the date and time must be reset. This telephone is a great deal at ~ $25, though.Update: Unfortunately, within a month of ownership, the CS6419 is now showing a chronic low-battery message with an empty icon flashing. Although
slow to charge *, this battery used to charge fully when I first started using the telephone. Technical Support had me disconnect the power to the
base (reset) and remove the battery from the handset for at least a minute and then attempt to recharge the battery for 10 hours after reconnecting
power. I did without positive result. So, I called VTech's Technical Support back and they decided to ship me a replacement battery without additional
cost. I should receive it within 14 calendar days. Buyers should beware of problems with marginal batteries in these telephones. Replacement cost
outside of a 30 day warranty is ~$25 from VTech which is more expensive than the CS6419 itself. One could probably find a better and cheaper replacement
battery from a 3rd party, though.
Updated Update (9/8/11): The promised battery finally came nearly a MONTH after I initially requested it. I had contacted Vtech's support at least 3 times over this issue. Every time, I was told that a new battery was being shipped when twice it was not. Just imagine a customer waiting nearly a MONTH for a replacement battery and unable to use Vtech's CS6419. Thankfully, I bought a replacement battery from a third party fairly early in the process so I could use the CS6419. If the reader wants to risk dealing with such a company that dawdles fulfilling warranties, then so be it. I'm seriously debating whether to do business with Vtech in the future.
* The following link is for a BT266342 battery, 2.4V 750mAH, substitute for the stock BT162342/BT262342 battery, 2.4V 300mAH. This substitute battery fits perfectly and currently costs ~ $7.50. I should warn the reader that the CS6419 takes seemingly FOREVER to charge and the problem is even worse with a higher capacity battery. If you occasionally use the CS6419 while charging the STOCK battery, the battery will likely take at least 2 DAYS to fully charge! With similar usage, the BT266342 replacement will likely take at least 5 DAYS to fully charge! At least you have a considerably cheaper option to spending ~ $25 for another stock battery from Vtech.
Awesome phone and expandable. There is not a better one for the price. Has lots of useful features that you have to normally pay more for. Battery life is great. The only drawback seems to be it takes a longer than normal time to charge. You won't be disappointed!
