I wanted to replace it with a good solid unit, without too many bells and whistles.
This VHF fits the bill exactly. It is small, compact and attractive. It has external speaker jack (which I need for my boat), and channel controls on the Mic.
Have done several radio checks and all confirm that I am coming in 5x5 (strong and crystal clear).
Great product, very affordable, would definitely recommend it.

I ordered this VHF radio through Amazon. It arrived quickly, and was shipped in protective packaging. Price was good. I installed it, and everything worked perfectly. The connection to my Garmin GPS brings the coordinates into the radio, so the emergency DSC function is available. Radio reception was clear, even for far-away locations (if you get a good antenna). One suggestion if you do buy this radio. I bought an automotive connector from O'Reilly so that the radio can be quickly disconnected from my boat.

I owned an Icom marine VHF for about 20 years, until suddenly, the synthesizer board failed. Service would cost about the price of the Standard Horizon and since I own a Standard Horizon GPS system on my boat, I figured it would be easy to hook the two together. The radio works perfectly. These kinds of products are a foolproof as a wrench. Audio is good and loud, radio reports are good (but hey, with a masthead antenna 52 feet above the water, I can hear Coast Guard signals more than 100 miles away).
Don't depend on your cellphone in case of an emergency. A responsible boater has a marine VHF below decks on the boat electrical system, and a handheld VHF for cockpit use.

It's a bit overkill for our 17' bowrider, but I wanted a good radio that would just work. I have this wired to our CP180 chart plotter and all the GPS integration works great!I hope I never have to use it to send a mayday, but I am confident that it will work exactly as planned if I do. The audio is clear and the speaker is nice and loud!
My biggest complaint is that the in-dash mounting kit is sold separately and it only comes with the bracket mount. We boat in some areas where I don't trust people and wanted to mount this in the dash to make it a little harder to steal. Those little plastic brackets were nearly $20!
Overall, I would recommend this radio to anyone who is serious about boating safety.
