Bought the 2 year extended warrentee for a tower fan I purchsed off of amazon.com. Fan broke down after 1.5 years. Called square trade for a replacement. I remember that old advertisement for Wendy's from years ago where the little, old lady asked, "Where's the meat?" Well, I purchased the Square Trade Protection Plan to cover a shredder which I purchased at the same time. To date, I've received nothing from Square Trade (after about seven queries to them?) and, other than being billed, I don't know whether or not the shredder's even covered? Not impressed and I'll definitely not recommend Square Trade to anyone. This, by the way, is my second poor experience with them. Three times will not be a charm here!

I recently bought a AT&T telephone with a one year warranty. At that time I also purchased a Square Trade 2 year protection plan. If something goes wrong with the telephone during the first year it is covered by AT&T not by Square Trade. Square Trade's warranty only applies during the second year extending the warranty by ONE year not two.

The Square Trade warranty, to me, is a ONE year warranty extension and should be described by Square Trade and Amazon.com as such.

I initially added this "protection plan" to my paper shredder purchase but when it was time to activate the plan I realized that dealing with someone in a foreign land on the other side of the world is not pleasant for me, I don't like it! Since the activation process was annoying, I naturally assumed that making a claim for repairs would be just as bad. I cancelled and got a refund. Really, it is a personal thing.

If cared for properly a shredder should last a long time. Our original shredder from wally joyfully chewed paper for the better part of 8 years without the benefit of cleaning,lubrication,or a "protection plan". It finally choked to death on a soft plastic envelope that gummed up the works.

We will take good care of our new Fellowes shredder and expect it to last far beyond the original factory warranty just as our old one did. If my new machine fails before it should, I'm happy to know I have the power of the review to shine a very public spotlight on substandard manufacturing quality control.

Square Trade does exactly what they sell you, they give you protection from a bum or broken product. You can't ask for more than what you paid for and this is a good deal.
