Propaganda aside; this machine is nothing short of amazing! It eliminates all the worry out of flying a RC device, but leaves all the fun so can relax and just enjoy playing with it.
Lets be clear though; this device is no mere toy! It has advanced technology like integrated GPS which afford you the priceless benefit of features like GPS position hold, and auto return-to-home. I can't describe the satisfaction I feel when I demonstrate the awesomeness of this device to people by shooting it up hundreds of feet into the air, sending it off into the distance out of sight, and then turning off the remote and looking at them. The look on their face when turn off the remote is priceless; however the look on their face is most satisfying when after a short time the quadcopter reappear flying back to you, lowers itself to 60 feet above your head, hovers for 15 seconds, and then slowly descends to the ground and land itself perfectly all while fighting the wind and maintaining its position.
I live on lake Ontario and it can get quite windy here. To see that device reappear over the trees and land itself is nothing short of amazing!
If you are looking to just have fun don't bother with anything else just purchase this and be done with it. If you need the satisfaction of putting a kit together DJI can provide all the parts, but for twice as much. Save yourself the hassle and spend five minutes putting this together out of the box.
I wasted time and money on helicopters, remotes, batteries, and charges not having much fun crashing breaking things; then I bought this and I feel like the helicopters have been a waste of time. The moment you start flying a heli you think "How cool would it be to put a camera on this thing...?" at which point you realize you can't.
The Phantom was designed to mount a camera to it. I personally am not that interested in recording video, but I am very interested in FPV flying. I have ordered an inexpensive RTF FPV kit (the FatShark Predator v2) which I plan to permanently mount to the Phantom so that I can take in and enjoy the natural beauty I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by in a new and special way.
As a cautionary tale I will disclose that I lost a blade MCX2 helicopter within a minute outside my house. It is so easy to fly that I got bored with it within hours in the house, and felt compelled to bring it outside to let it spread its wings. BAD idea!!! No matter what I did trying to control it, it just kept going higher and higher, and further and further away from me. The MCX2 has nice navigation lights built into it which allowed me to clearly see it getting away from me, and broadcast just how much there was nothing I could do about it.
It almost felt like the little heli was mocking me... By the time I decided it was better to cut the throttle and let it crash (thinking a crash was better than losing it) the little helicopter was out over the lake and likely met a cold end to its short life (may it rest in peace).
All I remember thinking while walking along the lakeshore, in the cold, for over an hour in the hopes that I might see the navigation lights in the brush or along the ground somewhere was "I sure wish this thing had auto return-to-home"...

This thing really is ready to go out of the box. No more than 10 screws and tightening your props, a battery charge and it starts flying. With the easy to follow online video or downloadable manual, a monkey could get this amazing quadcopter in the air. Whether you want to get great footage with a GoPro or just want to fly something that is quick an easy, this is it. Don't get me wrong, if you have no experience with RC planes or helichopters then take it slow, baby steps, to learn how to fly. The video tutorials really help with suggesting what to practice first, and once you're comfortable with those moves then suggestions on what to do next to move up to the next level of 3D flight. And the special features dream machine make losing your phantom a near impossibility. If your transmitter loses power the Phantom will literally fly back to the place it took off from using its GPS. This is one AMAZING feat of mechanics, engineering, and price tag. GO BUY ONE!!!Want DJI Phantom Aerial UAV Drone Quadcopter for GoPro Discount?
I own RC cars, planes, and heli's. The closest I have flown to the Phantom is the AR DRone which I thought was incredible until it became unpredictable, was horrible in wind, and struggled to fly properly carrying a Go Pro.First let me say that it is best to go through and watch all of the videos on the manufactures website after you place the order and then watch it while you are putting together your Phantom. It requires very little assembly but what you are connecting to it is important. Also, watch the calibration video. If you are flying in the same area, you really only need to calibrate it once.
FIRST TIME RC FLYERS: This is not a toy, although it will put a smile on your face like a kid on Christmas morning. It is a hobby grade flight vehicle that, once you understand how to fly it, is incredibly easy to control and has great reliability. That being said, if you have never flown any RC products, take it slow. It is not difficult but if you try to go for height or distance on your first flights without getting a feel for it, you will risk a potential pricey error.
FLYERS WITH A LITTLE OR MORE SUCCESSFUL EXPERIENCE: This will be easier to fly than anything you have flown in the past. Buy it.
My first flight was on a open golf course with a fair amount of wind. A flag on a flag pole in the distance was standing straight out in the wind so I knew I did not want to take the Phantom too far off of the ground. I cautiously elevated it and moved it around to get a feel for the controls. Once was comfortable, I took it higher and higher. I had my Go Pro on it so watching back the video, I ended up taking this thing high enough in the air to see the entire neighborhood. When I brought it straight down, it came down to the same spot I began elevating it. Now understand this is in GPS mode so the vehicle, after calibration, knew where it was and fought the wind to stay above the same location it took off from. The video was not so bad for the fact it was balancing against the wind. Better than any video I got from AR Drone and this was in substantial wind.
Video quality. There was limited "Jello" in the video but this was as the sun was setting and not in heavy sunlight where the video shake (or jello) is more noticeable. There are plenty of You Tube help videos to get you fine tuned on getting the best Video.
Over all, I was skeptical that this, for what I consider to be a big price tag, would deliver the results I would expect for the investment. So far, it has. I have experience with other flight vehicles (not necessarily required to learn this) and this is the easiest to master and most reliable flight vehicle I have flown. If you are on the fence, pull the trigger.
