So far, so good. I've called Apple a million times already and they picked up the phone within five minutes. They know their stuff and have been patient with me since I am new to the Mac.

The extended protection plan might be a little cheaper directly from Apple but the computer was a little more over there so the total amount was less at Amazon buying from a third party vendor.

When I tried to register this plan, Apple said it had already been used. The box was not sealed in the usual Apple fashion. i.e.:

shrink wrapped. A sticker had been placed over the serial number and when pulled off, removed some of the registration number. Apple worked with me after I sent a copy of my purchase receipt to them and validated the protection plan. Don't know why I received an apparently used Apple Protection Plan, but Apple made it right.

i live 50 miles from the nearest apple store, and when my optical drive started to fail apple would not allow me to mail it in. the apple service contract says mail in service is available for most models, but when you call apple, they tell you that most models means laptops only. apple sent someone from stockton to repair it on site (qual serve) as a consolation, but the guy did a bad repair job, and the fans ramped up, and did not replace all the screws, so i ended up taking it back to the apple store anyway.

the other time i wish i had mail in service was when the hard drive failed and started ticking. when i dropped it off at the nearest apple store, the repair took about two weeks because one of the other stores was remodeling and the store i took it to was overwhelmed with repairs. the repair took longer.

other then that apple has been really good

I would only suggest a couple things make sure you buy the right AppleCare package for your product. AppleCare for an iPhone will not work for the iMac, or the Mini Mac.
