I am a teacher and I use my iPad in class nearly every single day. It is my device of choice to both create and show lectures in my 'smart' classrooms, and as a Choir director I use it to edit music, occasionally to accompany my a cappella groups when we rehearse, and I use it as a score on my original compositions and arrangements. When my iPad broke from getting thrown off a music stand by someone rushing by, I panicked... teacher's don't make enough money to have 'disposable' gadgets. But I started my SquareTrade claim, and got confirmation that I'd be getting a check to replace the iPad.

I turned in my claim on a Wednesday, and on Thursday I had been emailed packaging directions and an overnight shipping label. I sent my broken iPad off, and within 4 days I had been given confirmation that they had decided to cut me a check for the purchase price of my 1st Gen, 16GB 3G iPad. The check was at my house in another 5 days (the weekend slowed them down)... so all in all, the entire process only took 10 days from my iPad breaking to having a check in my hand.

So, thank you Squaretrade for taking care of your customers. I'll be getting another iPad immediately, and I'll most certainly be buying a Squaretrade warranty for it as well.

I've bought a bunch of SquareTrade warranties for my item, in the hopes that I'd never need their services. Unfortunately, my iPad took a spill and needed a new screen. The support was great, I had uploaded my receipt on the day I bought it, so they approved my repair fast.

Sent it in, and it came back really quick. I was happy until I unpacked it and noticed that the repair was really amateur. I could have done it myself with better results. The back of the iPad was not aligned correctly, glue and epoxy ruined the glass at the edges, and the screen was not as slick or fingerprint proof as the original was.

I uploaded a few pictures of the repair, hopefully you guys will take a look. I wanted to give them 2 stars for the quick turnaround, but I can't stand to look at it anymore. I am back to using my aging iPad 1.

EDIT: 3/16/12: After getting in touch with someone at Squaretrade, they agreed the repair job was "unacceptable" and actually questioned the people involved in repairing it. I did NOT expect that kind of response from them. They did resolve the matter promptly, and I've updated my rating to reflect that. I had originally given them one star, but changed it to 4 for the customer service. I thought about giving them a 3, but seriously, the customer service was not only friendly, but funny as hell. I was glad that the customer rep I spoke to, could find humor in the whole ordeal. (In a good way. The rep seemed really down to earth.)

Nice deal, 1/2 the price of the electronic stores and no one's pushing you to get one.

Paperwork came a few days later.

What they don't tell you in the information is that the plan works like a bank account for the price of the product example you purchase a 500.00 item that item goes in for service and it costs 300.00 to fix it you now only have 200.00 left of service repair costs.

Horrible plan, horrible customer service and a complete sham.
