Shredder still going strong! I just shredded a few months backlog of stuff all in one sitting with the motor just about running constant for maybe 20 min straight. I only had to unload the hopper 2xit is deceivingly large in capacity. I was just waiting for the motor to kick out due to overheating, since I've been conditioned for so many years by my former shredder, but it just didn't happen. On the old shredder, this volume would have taken 1 hr to shred due to motor overheating and auto shutdown. Still happy as a clam with this purchase!

Wow! After reading tons of reviews on Amazon, I was either going to go with a Fellows or this AmazonBasics. I decided to try this one because:
1. The competitive price for a mid-class 12-sheet vs. 11 sheet shredder. I figured more sheets=more powerful motor.
2. The highest rated Fellows in this mid-class category was rated so-so for CD's, vs. this one which reviewers rated well in this area.
3. I figured since this one had Amazon's name on it, I'd have a better chance of getting a higher-class machine than another brand selling on Amazon for a similar price.
All 3 points above amount to one thing: Hardcore motor for hardcore shredding. I was tired of fooling around with small shredders where I'd wait for motor cooling longer than shredding (not to mention multiple, messy basket emptying-s).
When I received the package today, I was initially disappointed wrt the size of the box. I expected it to be larger like the mid-class ones i've seen at the store. Boy was I was wrong! Clever packaging by Amazon revealed a very solid motor head securely packed within a nice sized basket (Nice work Amazon Packaging Engineers!).
I took it out, set it up, and plugged it in within 20 seconds. I was immediately very pleased with the obvious child/pet safety features. I then proceeded to shred a bunch of stuff with my 4-year old daughter without any problems. The CD went through like butter, as did the paper. 12-sheets was slower as other reviewers indicated, but no strain on the motor... and relatively quiet too!
I am a very picky consumer (& professional software tester by trade), and I do not hesitate to return products that do not meet my expectations for design and durability. I would definitely buy this one again, and I will definitely recommend this one to my friends.
WOW! This shredder's a major league butt-kicker!

I am a shred master-I shred basically anything with my name or address on it/in it. I am especially angry towards credit card offers and love to shred those with fury. I really get a good sense of empowerment by shredding a whole credit card offer without ever opening it.This shredder, while advertised as a 12 sheet, can't handle credit card offers very well compared to my other current shredder, the Fellowes Powershred W-11C 11 Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder (3103201) which is only rated for 11 pages.
This shredder is a more well rounded shredder compared to the Fellowes. This one has a dedicated CD shredding slot, credit card indention, and some additional "feel good" safety features. The paper chute is easier to hit when you approach it under a desk or at an angle. It has a window in the shred bin so you can see how full the bin is. It's a little louder and slower than the Fellowes.
That all being said, if you're looking for pure brute shredding capability, the Fellowes is that, with less frills, bells or whistles but it has the extra "grunt" to get through tough junk mail. The Fellowes is a little difficult to get the angle right if you are reaching for it under a desk, but all the features considered, I'd personally choose the Fellowes.
If you're just shredding a few sheets of office paper at a time, I'd choose this one as it's a better well rounded model.

After cleaning out my files archive, I had a large stack of old personal documents that I needed to shred. I opted for a cross-cut shredder to hopefully minimize the chance that any identifying information would still be readable.I was adequately satisfied with the speed and ease this shredder was able to chew up my old financial documents and credit cards. I even tested an old CD and it sliced it up without a hassle.
After a little over a months use, I find myself using this shredder on a weekly basis to shred up those dumb offers credit card companies send you, and it works well enough. So far I haven't had any jams or anything, but my usage is light.
However, one complaint I have is that for whatever reason, possibly because of where I store my shredder (under my desk, subject to me kicking it), when I go to use it, I find the "misalignment" light is on, requiring me to remove the shredder from the basket and then place it back on. Its not a big hassle, though, and it always functions when I need it to work.
Overall I'm satisfied with the quality of this shredder and I'm glad amazon offers quality products at affordable prices. This Amazon Shredder with basket is a very nice compact, relatively light, well engineered machine. It even looks good.
There is a series of warning lights upper left for overload, overheat, shredder not aligned, and auto (although latter is more a status light0 and below those are two status lights of Ready and Disabled.
There are separate slots to shred CDs and credit cards, one at a time..
There is a glass window in front of the basket so one can see how full is the basket..
Takes 12 sheets of 20# paper, which is very good, e.g., I can shred triple folded bank statements within the envelop with no problem. I also shredded 12 sheets of 20# as a test. No problem.
.
Nice set of instructions, simple, clear, including maintenance and trouble shooting.
All in all a very nice compact multi-use shredder.
