Summer Infant Secure Sight Handheld Color Video Monitor

Summer Infant Secure Sight Handheld Color Video MonitorWe purchased the Summer Infant "Night and Day" handheld monitor when our baby was born (I'll get around to how this relates to the "Secure Sight" system you're expecting to read about). Around the 8 month mark the sound started to "go" ... we'd see the 'red' but wouldn't hear anything. Since the monitor was less than 1 year old I contacted Summer Infant customer support, and was told that if I could prove my handheld was purchased less than 1 year ago they would replace it with the "Secure Sight" handheld monitor. (for some reason they wouldn't send a new "Night and Day", and FYI: save your receipt!). Before agreeing to the trade I checked it out and saw that the Secure Sight unit itself was/is more streamlined than the "Night and Day" model, but noticed the price was a bit less. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I agreed to the swap. We set it up and I couldn't be more disappointed. The picture isn't nearly as sharp as the "Night and Day", it's a step above poor and I can barely distinguish my baby from the crib mattress. With the Night and Day I could actually see his breathing if I wanted to with the Secure Sight it's more like looking at a fuzzy shape of what's most likely my baby.

Second, the power cord is very short compared to the "Night and Day" and we have to use an extension cord to make it to the outlet (we didn't need an extension cord with the "Night and Day"). Recommendation: pay the extra $30 for the "Night and Day" if you're considering either of these, or even better... save yourself the trouble altogether by avoiding them both. I've never written a product review before this one, but sincerely hope it helps a few folks with their decision.

With a little one, you can imagine it's not hard to accidentally drop your monitor. Ours fell from about 36 inches off the ground (from our night stand). The plug end broke off into the monitor, which we cannot get out. There are only two screws on the back and it doesn't seem like you can "operate" on it yourself to get the end of the plug out. (We are afraid to open it.) So, we now have a broken monitor (AND charging cord), which Summer Infant does not sell separately. Looks like we're completely out of luck since we got this as a shower gift and have no proof of purchase for their 12 month window (plus the manufacture date is beyond that AND the shower was well before our baby's birth date making it way past 12 months, despite less than that in terms of usage time). We really did like it good reception, great picture, good distance for receiver. A terrible flaw in that for a baby item, it is not very durable! We will be forced to replace this with another brand it's not worth the risk of this happening again.

UPDATE: We called Summer Infant and they had us send it back to them. (Should have done this the second it broke!) They replaced it VERY quickly and we are happy again. For the record, we bought another one the 3.5" Motorola monitor. By comparison, the picture on the Motorola is terrible! Our Summer Infant monitor is far superior in terms of picture as well as lack of interference. Had I realized ALL of this, I would have bought another Summer Infant. Too late now, but maybe you can learn from our mistakes!

We bought this monitor when we brought our preemie daughter home from the hospital so we could visual see her oxygen and heart rate monitor. The video is very clear, and works wonderfully at night. The sound is exceptionally clear. We have used the Graco digital with our first son and went thru three of them from the sound going out and battery dying. Very impressed at how well the unit transmits, especially since we live in an apartment. No interference at all. THe only issue we have had is that after 4 nights the LED light on the reciever died and you could not see the image hardly at all. Summer replaced it and we've had no issues further. I would highly recommend this product.

I bought this product when I had my 3rd baby bc my audio only monitor would only work when on the charger and decided to upgrade to a video monitor. Even with the mixed reviews I felt this would be the best choice for the money.

I was pleased at first but quickly realized that I could not use the monitor in the backyard bc it was out of range. Then the power button started sticking and then finally after 18 months the entire monitor stopped working all together.

I can't afford to buy a new video monitor and sure wish my investment would have lasted longer than 18 months. Now I have a camera that is useless!

We have the previous model of this monitor for our first child and I'm not sure how the newer model is considered an upgrade. The older model has a MUCH clearer crisper picture and longer cord for more flexibility on camera placement. This version has a fuzzier picture and has been a disappointment. Other than the picture and the lack of flexibility of camera placement due to the short cord, the sound is great and I like that you can add another camera.

Summer Infant has GREAT customer service and I've been happy with their responsiveness. The first monitor's night vision didn't work and they sent me a replacement with no issues and no cost to me for shipping.

Summer Infant Baby Touch Digital Video Monitor Extra Camera (Black/White)

Summer Infant Baby Touch Digital Video Monitor Extra Camera, Black/WhiteThis is the second video monitor I've purchased. The first was summer as well but it broke and they discontinued it so I decided to pay more and boy was it worth it!! the screen is hugh and it works every time! I can move the camera with ease to see which of my twins is crying and why. My absolute favorite part about this monitor is it doesn't pick up all the tiny little sounds the babes make. The last one was so sensitive that I could hear their stomach growl! Get it! And remember that Amazon has a 1 year guarantee on all baby products so if you have a problem you can return it to them and they will replace it instead of having to go through the individual company. super convenient!!!

I hesitated on whether or not to buy the extra camera or to just not use a camera in my older child's room. I have to say it has been such a great purchase! I love how the system scans between the two cameras every 8 seconds, which seems like a perfect aMount of time. Also, although it is labeled as being a black/white camera mine that came was a color camera, just like the other summer camera. I'm glad I didn't spend the extra few dollars to get the one labeled as color. This summer monitor is a great purchase and wad easy to sync with my existing set up.

We just had our second baby (older one is 2), and this is perfect for monitoring both in "scan" mode since you can monitor up to 4 cameras. We keep one camera in each of their bedrooms, one in our bedroom (since the newborn still mostly sleeps in our room), and one is on hand for wherever the newborn ends up napping! The ability to pan is simply brilliant, especially for the 2 year-old who can be all over the place in her room. The talk-back feature also is useful to gently remind the 2 year-old to get back in her bed if she starts to protest nap time. It's also nice to be able to communicate with a spouse or caregiver who's in the room with the child. Picture quality is grainy when the camera is distant from your child, but high-def quality shouldn't be needed for the purpose of child-monitoring. The monitor unit's battery unfortunately doesn't last an entire night, so I just keep it plugged in on my nightstand, but that's really my only criticism. It would be nice if it came with an extra charger so I could keep one upand one downstairs. If you're on the fence about video monitoring vs just audio monitoring, go video! You'd be surprised at the vast amount of peace of mind it provides to be able to see that your child is okay.

We have twins and first bought the Summer Infant with one camera.

The image is sharp and colourful at daylight, clear and bright at night with zero light on.

The microphone is so sensitive it will pick the sound of the babies kicking the blanket away with their feet.

Now we need to monitor each girl in her bed and bought a second cam.

Warmly recommended product.

After buying and loving the baby touch video monitor, I couldn't decide whether or not to spend the extra money and get a second monitor. I sure am glad I did. The convenience of being able to watch both kids during nap time is great. The scan feature is nice. I wish this system had voice activated video, but other than that, this system is awesome.
